What is Shared Graphics Memory?

Shared graphics memory is a type of computer memory that is used by the system's graphics chipset to store and manage visual content.

Unlike dedicated graphics memory, which is a separate type of memory specifically reserved for use by the graphics chipset, shared graphics memory is taken from the system's main memory (RAM). The amount of shared graphics memory available to the graphics chipset is determined by the system's BIOS or UEFI firmware settings, and can be adjusted to meet the needs of the system. Typically, systems with integrated graphics chipsets that use shared graphics memory allocate a portion of the system's RAM for this purpose, while systems with dedicated graphics cards have their own dedicated graphics memory.
